Ok, I like this band. I really do. But did anyone catch their TV debut on Letterman this week? Attention lead singer: A bands' stage presence should not be taken lightly. Talk about an impression.
Imagine seeing someone coked out and you not being able to look away from the odd jerks and ticks you might witness. This is exactly what I saw while watching the lead singer. Yikes. If this guy isn't on something, he should at least tell people that he was to save himself some embarrassment.
And what is up with the hunchback guitar player? Did I miss the memo on the new cool way to hitch up your guitar strap? He looks like a freak.
Don't get me wrong, I own this album and I dig a unique sound and an engaging performance, but there comes a time when bands cross the line of uniqueness and fall right into ridiculous. Unfortunately, Cage the Elephant fell into the latter on this performance.
Maybe not so amazingly, this band sounds good and I dig their rock vibe. I am certainly glad I heard them through the radio first and through their album before seeing this live performance. I can only imagine some people might have actually been too visually distracted to hear the band itself.
I've linked to YouTube here for you to see for yourself. Minute 3:15 is particularily interesting.
