Anyhow, we did it. We were kneading our bread while waiting for the chicken to come out of the oven for dinner. The chicken was done before the bread was ready and Sis, with furled brow, was continually worried about the hard state of her lump of dough. As I preached on about patience and perserverance, she continued at it with a mission. Several minutes passed before she confessed in a most worried tone: "Mom, I don't think it's gonna be done in time for dinner." It didn't occur to me that this was her expectation...surely she knows bread takes hours to rise and another hour to bake? Oops. As soon as I reassured her that the bread was indeed for breakfast, she replied with some relief: "Oh. I'm done." So much for perserverance.
The bread was baked with pleasing results and we've been enjoying all my hard work. Or, um, our hard work? Needless to say, it was a fun project, and made the house smell like heaven, but I'm cool with buying it. Considering the cost and time variables, it doesn't make much sense not to.
Cost: $6
