HOW LOW CAN YOU GO?

I am so low maintenance, it's not funny.

If it were socially acceptable, I might not even shower. Please don't get me wrong, it's hardly that I don't like to be clean. I do. It's just that it's so darn time consuming. Seriously, there is no "hopping in the shower", it's more of a time sacrifice or dedication ritual to the peer-pressure gods.

Men have it easy. My husband can literally annouce he's going to shower and change with 7 minutes until company arrives. And he does. I, on the other hand, would need to announce it 7 minutes before inviting company to arrive. To arrive three hours later.

With all the shaving, exfoliating, plucking, washing, conditioning, blow-drying, hydrating, protecting, brushing, whitening and make-up-ing, it takes me a literal 60 minutes, or more, of "hopping into the shower". And that's if uninterupted by the constant questions, demands and referreeing I'm likely involved with from my two small children.

I'm in awe over the massive quantity of product I have acquired. All in an effort to minimize my beautifying time, mind you. HA! It takes no less than 6 products to get through my shower. Another 10 to be presentable afterwards. And this is not including clothes or make-up! It's no wonder mothers walk around with bare faces and sweat pants. After all the work it took to get "presentable" we simply run out of time. Or energy.

What am I doing wrong? Just who the heck am I doing this for? Honestly ladies! I get the idea that it feels great to be clean and to look our best. It does. I get that we should want our significant others to still find us attractive. Certainly, I do. I get that it's important for our children to see us taking care of ourselves. But all this to sit through an episode of Sesame Street and play Hot Wheels? All this work and prep to give the image to the other mom's that I'm "on top of my game" when running to the store for milk? Sheesh!

Let's embrace the trends in our favor. Baggy boyfriend jeans? Check. Bed-head hair? Check! Bare faces? CHECK! Less showers to save the planet?! CHECK! CHECK! CHECK!

  1. We do it for ourselves. Maybe not everyday, but there is nothing better than taking a look at yourself in the mirror when you are all done up. No matter the amount of time it takes to get "ready".I know when I am out of my sweats and have make up on, shoot, even do my hair my day is soooo much better. Don't know why, but I fell good!!! And I don't want Maya to think I am the mother who wears a moomoo with no make up! Gasp;-)
