Keeping up with the technology these days is a bit of work. I feel old.
I'm now on Twitter, Facebook, Blogger and Gmail. I'm tweeting and facebooking through text message and submitting YouTube videos for job applications. I carry my music collection through an iPod and, thanks to iTunes, haven't bought a cd in months.
What in the world are our kids going to be working with? My laptop will no doubt be obsolete by the time my daughter needs a computer and my Palm smartphone will be considered a brick. My kids will looks at me with glazed eyes as I tell them about my memories of listening to Jackson 5 on an 8-track in my dad's van. I remember when having a pager was cool? What's a pager? Nevermind.
I can't help but wonder who really wants all this crap. Do you really want to know what I'm thinking, tweeting and facebooking at all hours of the day? I'm no John Mayer.
In effort to keep up and not become obsolete myself, I'm going mobile and tweeting my heart out. I vow to give it my best effort. But brace yourself for the deep, meaningful, considerations of what color to paint my nails and how many loads of laundry I'll get done in a single day. Afterall, these are the major life decisions that I am faced with on a daily basis.
How do you find the time? I have days I just want to throw everything away. Yet, then other days I panic because I forgot my cell phone at home while out running errands.
ReplyDeleteYou will have to give me some lessons in time management and how you make it all work.
I liked reading your comment about our kids. Clayton and I talk about that also and wonder what will it be like for them. It is truly hard to imagine at the rate things change now.
Thanks for the post.
Its waaaay too much for me let alone my kid! I always hold on to one thing and forget the rest. Never had a pager, never had a cd player, don't have an ipod, never used itunes, don't have a lap top, just got a new slide phone (step up from my brick phone),got my first cell phone at 25, but loooove Facebook. I don't feel like I've missed out on anything. But then again, Matt has alllll those things and knows how to use them! So maybe I would have missed them if it weren't for Matt. If we do decide to allow Maya these privileges, we will also take her somewhere remote for vacation to remind her how to be free from the chaos of technologies!!!
ReplyDeleteI despise technology, but at the same time, have fallen victim to all the fancy (albeit completely frivilous and ridiculous) gadgets out there. I wish I lived back in the 80's. I wish the only way to get a hold of someone was by a land line telephone. And using a pay phone if you were out an about. I hate being so accessible. That being said, rest assured you can always reach me by cell phone, text or email.
