As a tool to help Daughter wash her hands properly, we taught her to sing her ABC's while doing so. Not only can we keep an ear on her progress, but she's sharpening her alphabet in the progress.
Imagine our surprise the other night when she finished the song like this: "...Now I know my ABC's won't you come and sing with me. If you don't, I'll slap you in the throat." Say WHAT?! Husband and I stopped what we were doing and immediately locked eyes on one another with the non-verbal communication that reads "did she just say what I thought she did?" Daughter went on her merry way, drying her hands and returning to play, obviously oblivious to what she just sang.
Husband and I let this go, this time. We are hesitant to draw attention to this for concern of encouraging it. And she has yet to repeat anything similar.
Meanwhile, I'm wracking my brain trying to understand where this comes from. Truly, she has never heard anything remotely similar here at home and from what I know, this kind of talk is not shared in any family or friends' homes. We watch little television and the worst thing she hears on that might be about someone not sharing. I doubt she's picking this up from Dance class or Preschool, but where?! How do I stop this? And geez, why so violent?
I know kids say goofy things and I know it's normal, natural, whatever...but the last thing I want is for my daughter to be a bully.
Is that another gray hair?
