SIT HERE - THE FRONT ROOM

Sitting rooms and formal living spaces are so outdated. What does this even mean anymore? Even when I have friends over, we don't sit in the 'Sitting Room' or eat in the 'Formal Dining Room'. In fact, these rooms are so obsolete in today's family lifestyle, that I've chosen to omit them from my home complete. In theory anyway.

What you might consider the Sitting Room, or Formal Living Room has been re-termed the Front Room. That's what it is. A room. In the front of my house. Casual or Formal has no impact on this space. My kids romp as freely here as they would anywhere else.

Recently though, it needed some sprucing. As the first place someone looks when entering my home, I agree it needed to set a tone. And I wasn't happy with what it was saying

I found this great pic in January's Better Homes & Garden mag and just knew I had to live there. The tricky part, I didn't exactly have this style of home, nor the budget to buy the items as shown. So with a fresh coat of paint and repurposing some items around my house, I channeled the feel and look into my space. I think it worked. And for well under $100!
My kids rarely appreciate my hardwork, and aside from the time this photo was taken, it rarely looks like this...but it COULD. If I had no kids.

For those curious or doubting my budget talk, here's a quick breakdown.
Paint: $40
Throw Pillow covers: $10
New picture frames: $20
Green storage bins: $15

  1. Looks great! My front room is/was my den. A library with my computer and beautiful books every where... now Katie is here and I want it to be a useful room so it's going to be a play room/ office!
