MUSIC NOTES: ROMAN HOLIDAY

Turns out I've been listening to an amazing band for months and never even knew it.

I attend a church that pretty much sold me with it's rockin' song service. And I'm not being cute when I say 'rockin', I really mean "ROCKING". The song leader, Daniel Collins, is a 20-something hipster with perfectly rockstar longish hair, and on-trend style who plays a mean guitar and has vocals to kill. Turns out, he has a band. A real band. As if I needed another reason to make it to church on Sunday...

Recently, I sought him out online to get a feel for what he might be doing on his non-church days and was blown away. And no, not at all stalkerish, who wouldn't want people seeking out their band? Turns out, band Roman Holiday, is nothing less than radio-ready rock. You know those awesome alt-rock songs, somewhat obscure, that always read at the bottom of MTV programming like The Hills or The City? (Am I the only one who watches MTV with my iTunes at the ready?) This band could be one of them. They have likable lyrics with skills that can hang with the big boys. With a sound so clear and crisp, maybe I have heard them before. Maybe they are on tv. Yes, they are that good.

No freshman to the music scene - playing all around the Northwest since May of 09 - with tours just recently taking them to Hollywood's Viper Room, I'd say Roman Holiday has established their presence. You can catch them at the Crocodile Cafe this month, or at the Puyallup Fair in September. I can't wait to get the chance to hear them play a live set in the club scene. If they're anything like Daniel Collins on Sunday morning, they can call me a fan.

I recommend 'Touch Your Coat', 'I Think It's Her' and 'Lockets' just for starters. Let me know if you enjoy them as much as I do. Now off to find the album.
