NOT A FAN

Ok, Google+, I'm coming for you. Just when I thought nothing could hack me off more than Facebook's constant updates and mobile app crashes, you, Google+, went and one-upped FB.

In an effort to learn the ropes of the new social network, (if not to make the jump as inspired by Zuckerburg's need for endless change) I thought I was making the leap to Google+. And in effort to mask a sliver of my privacy, I took the extra steps in jumping on my desktop (gasp! the inefficient horror!) to troubleshoot and remove what seemed to me an unnecessary amount of photographic information that went along with signing up for Google+.

Don't know what I'm talking about? Have you joined Google+ on your iPhone?

When you do, and assuming you have a Google account, all your photos... and yes, I do mean all... from your blogs, your Picasa account and your iPHONE (!) all upload onto your profile. If I'm feeling trusting, I can assume these will remain private from all onlookers unless I choose to share them, however the vast amount of memory needed to update these folders kept my app spinning for sometime. Plus, I'm just not that trusting.

So onto my PC I went to edit and remove all unnecessary content from Google+. Little did I know that in doing this I also completely wiped out all photos from said blogs. I have yet to check Picasa, and assume those have also been deleted, though that doesn't nearly bother me enough to care as it was mostly used to be a photo-editing pit stop on my photos' way to Shutterfly and beyond.

The real kicker is that I couldn't access my iPhone photos though the PC interface. Curious.

Right now, I'm trying to go back and remedy my blog posts and reload all the photos from the past 2 years of blog posts. Because I have that kind of time. Thank goodness I have a shred of organizational skills that has allowed me to somewhat find them. But in the meantime, if you see a big black box with a HUGE '!', now you know why.

And for the record: I'm done with Google+ thankyouverymuch. You will not find me there. But you'll apparently find my life's worth of photos. Awesome.

  1. ...bummer. What a pain. That's a massive flaw on Google's part. I'm thankful I read your blog before I ever tried to sign up for Google+!
